About this project

Have you ever imagined yourself traveling across two continents without using airplanes alone and doing research on something you are passionate about, both in the same time for three weeks? Well, that is the general idea of this project.

Cross Countries

The map of the route I will take (Indonesia to Germany)

On my way back from my summer break in my own country in Indonesia, I will do a project called “Urban Nomadizing”. The idea is to go back from my summer break in my home country sustainably – without using airplanes – and do a research about urban agricultures in the major cities I will visit from July 8, 2016 to July 31, 2016. I will use combination of ships, buses, and trains and visit eight capital cities where I will conduct my research at (Singapore, Bangkok, Vientiane, Hanoi, Bangkok, Moscow, Warsaw, and Berlin).

The project will not end only with this journey; it will be continued with a summer course in Emmendingen, Freiburg, Germany from July 31, 2016 to August 15 2016, with a topic of “The Future of Sustainable Food Production”.

Then, let me tell you about why the name is “Urban Nomadizing”. Nomadizing is from the word to nomadize that means to live the life of a nomad – someone who lives by traveling from place to place. Nomadic lifestyle is how ancient humans lived before humans started to settle down and do farming. This is similar to my project; although I will not nomadize for food, this project will be a starting point to build my knowledge about agriculture for my future. The word “urban” is included in the name because I will be investigating urban agriculture in particular and nomadizing using modern public transportation.

However, there are other major details I have not stated but I will publish later in this blog, such as the relation of this project to sustainability, my transportation and accommodation, and my preparation. Thank you for reading!
